Tis the season to start thinking of jolly old Saint Nick and of course with the Miami Dolphins having four games remaining, it makes sense to make a wish.

With Christmas right around the corner, my kids started writing their Santa letters this past weekend, and as I stared at the television watching the Miami Dolphins play, I couldn’t help myself, I had to start my own list to our dear friend Santa on what he could bring the Dolphins to help them this Christmas season.

Dear Santa,

I’ve been a really good fan this year and since I was five years old, but I haven’t seen the Dolphins play in Super Bowl ever, I haven’t seen them win a playoff game in over 11 years and I’m sick of all my friends and family making fun of me for being a Dolphins fans.

Each year, we offer a glimmer of hope that quickly gets erased with a heavy dose of reality.  That brief, yet limited time allowed all Dolphin fans to find and express their deep hidden passion, which was evident when the Dolphins started 3-0.  Yet, each year Dolphin fans are reminded that they are far from a complete team as all fans have seen what the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angles Rams can do on any given Sunday.

So Santa, here is what I want you go give the Dolphins:

Wish List 1 – A new defensive coordinator.

Santa – Matt Burke is terrible.  The Dolphins are at the bottom of the entire league in all important defensive statistics.  Every Sunday, every Miami Dolphins fan sends a little prayer any time the Dolphins make it to 3rd down. The Dolphins have the best 3rd down conversion rate for opposing teams, which means they can’t get off the field.  Burke hasn’t done anything creative with his young talent and looks lost when trying to game plan against the top-tier coaches.

Santa, I want Kacey Rogers to come back to Miami.  He was the best coaching assistant the Dolphins ever developed and for some reason the Dolphins decided to let him go.  I know he’s the current DC for the Jets, but he understands game plan and knows how to adapt during a game to offset what the opposing team is doing.

He has developed Jamal Adams as the best in box safety in the league, which is what the Dolphins only can hope for with Minkah Fitzpatrick – who is the ideal match to Jamal Adams in every aspect.  Rogers best assets is coaching the D line, where Joey Porter, Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor were constantly threatening the quarterback during his last tenure with the Dolphins, can we see what he can do with our young and unproven line; Charles Harris and Vincent Taylor.

Rogers worked and developed Sean Smith and Vontae Davis into two elite cornerbacks before they moved onto rich contracts with other teams, image what he could do with Xavien Howard.

Santa – I know I’ll have to live with Burke until the end o the year, but this could be a delayed gift for me.

Wish List 2 – a new shiny quarterback

Santa – Dan Marino was the last quarterback that made a difference, with the exception of Chad Pennington who only played one season.  But seriously, the Dolphins haven’t had an actual franchise quarterback since the iconic 13 retired.

It was sad to watch the Bills game last week, as Josh Allen potential for a 22-year-old looks scary, compared Ryan Tannehill a 30-year-old QB that has never led the Dolphins to a winning record.  If Charles Clay catches the ball that hit him between the team numbers, the Dolphins would be out of the playoff race.

Ryan has been a serviceable quarterback for the Dolphins.  All fans wanted to believe in him, but his health is a concern.  Ryan hasn’t been able to play a full season for the past 3 years and the Dolphins needs to look at another option, due to the fact that behind Ryan there really isn’t one.  I want you to tell them to trade up on this upcoming draft and take Justin Herbert or Dwayne Haskins.  Haskins  just looks incredible to me, he had more touchdowns last week then in-completions.  His size and speed are legit and based on his game tape he can make every throw in the NFL.

The same can be said about Herbert.  He comes from a pass happy offense and if Adam Gase is still our head coach next year, this could be a perfect match for his pass heavy playbook.

To be honest, I just want you to tell the Dolphins to do something bold.  Each year, the Dolphins select first round players with hype but will little progress. I would trade Tunsil and Harris (two former first round picks) for a chance at any of these two players.  Drafting a quarterback is never easy, finding a franchise QB is even harder.  We need to start somewhere; the draft is the best option and the two players that I mentioned are the best options to take the Dolphins to a level they haven’t seen since some guy wore 13.

That’s it Santa – I’m only asking for two things, to make things easier and I believe you can honestly delivery on both.  I’ve been on your ‘nice’ list for a while, so make sure when you drop by the Dolphins training facility on the 25th  you have these two presents in hand.
