There will be a lot speculation in the coming weeks and month about the future of many of the Dolphins coaches and even executives. George Paton may be mentioned.

The Minnesota Vikings, George Paton, a 12 year executive has drawn a lot of interest over the last several years but has yet to move on from the Vikings, now according to a report by CBS, Paton is ready and the Miami Dolphins could be of interest to him.

Paton is close with former Miami Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman and was with Spielman in Miami all those years ago leaving with him for the Vikings. Amid uncertainty within the Dolphins front office there are questions about whether Miami will move on from Chris Grier and maybe even Mike Tannenbaum.

If owner Stephen Ross wants to shake things up is bringing in Paton an option? Realistically yes but Tannenbaum would be a problem as it is unlikely that Ross would part ways with Tannenbaum and that creates a dynamic that could hinder hiring a new G.M. with Tannenbaum in place.

Of course the Dolphins may not even view Grier as a guy they want or need to replace. Grier has been with the Dolphins for what seems like an eternity dating back to his scouting days. He has been the teams GM since 2016.

Miami, according to the CBS report, had sought to interview Paton in the past but he withdrew from consideration. It appears now that the may be ready.

"Several sources suggested Miami as one potential landing spot that would have considerable appeal to Paton. – Jason La Canfora CBSsports"

Of course once again this comes back to whether or not the Dolphins will make a change this off-season or wait until after 2019 to see if Adam Gase can turn it around with presumably far less injuries. Maybe hopefully is the right word.

La Canfora continued with his information about Paton’s future.

"…sources said a return to Miami would not be out of the question if the Dolphins were to make front-office changes this offseason."

The Dolphins and the rest of the NFL have four weeks remaining before the regular season is over. Stephen Ross will evaluate the direction the team is going in as will the coaching staff and front office executives. Chances are very good that Mike Tannenbaum remains in his position but beyond that it is anyone’s guess.

The Dolphins play the Patriots at home today and then will travel to the Vikings next week where Paton will get a very good look at a team who could potentially be in charge of next season. They finish against the Jaguars and Bills.

My prediction is that everything stays in place for one more season.
