The Miami Dolphins entered today’s game with the Vikings riding high after last weeks miracle but instead they simply didn’t show up.

The first quarter of today’s Miami Dolphins vs. Vikings game was all Minnesota as they jumped out to a 21-0 lead. The Dolphins managed to cut that lead to 21-10 by half-time and then pulled within five with a third quarter touchdown. Then they sat back and took the rest of the day off.

Miami did not score another point following that first play from scrimmage run by Kalen Ballage to start the second half. They managed to keep the Vikings offense in check for the third quarter but after that it was all Minnesota.

The Vikings would end the day with 41 points to Miami’s 17 in a game that saw Ryan Tannehill get sacked eight times. Tannehill is entirely different topic from today’s loss and we will discuss that later but for now the loss puts the Dolphins in a very bad situation for the final playoff spot.

Entering today’s game the Dolphins could afford to lose this game and remain in the hunt and mathematically they are still alive but every other 7-6 team won today. Miami now finds themselves one game back of the Titans, Ravens, and Colts in the chase for the 6th seed.

For Ryan Tannehill it was a typical inconsistent day on the road where the Dolphins are 1-12 in their last 13 road games. Tannehill was pressured all day long and poor blocking did nothing to help but at the same time, Tannehill’s inability to recognize the blitz and open outlet allowed sacks to pile up throughout the late third and fourth quarters.

Frankly the Dolphins may be alive in the post-season hunt but they do not deserve to go to the post-season over the other three teams who are playing like the post-season means something. For all the talk of culture change, the Dolphins simply can’t put good games together.
