Chris Grier

Honestly it is hard to remember when the Miami Dolphins had a really good general manager. Jimmy Johnson? Don Shula? We know it wasn’t Dave Wannstedt, Rick Spielman, Nick Saban, Randy Mueller, Jeff Ireland, or Dennis Hickey. Is it Chris Grier?

Grier is well-respected in the Dolphins offices and word on the street is that it is very unlikely that Grier gets removed from his position. He has been with the Dolphins for a very long time starting out at the bottom of the scouting department and working his way up the ladder.

While he may be respected around the offices there are questions about his ability to identify talent and that more or less goes hand in hand with the questions we asked about with Tannenbaum. Who is actually making the final decisions and who has the biggest sway in those decisions? If it is Tannenbaum then Grier shouldn’t be held to the same standard of success but then again if that is the case then why is he here?

If Grier has final decisions then he needs to be accountable for the players that the Dolphins are signing in free agency and the choices they are making in the draft. Rumors still circulate that Ross wanted Miami to draft a quarterback, Lamar Jackson specifically. Someone ultimately made the decision to go in their own direction. That may not sit well with Ross who is now watching Jackson develop in Baltimore and likely winning the AFC North division as a rookie.

Will he leave?

My early guess would be that there is a bigger chance of Grier being replaced than Tannenbaum but that would only be due to the relationship of Tannenbaum and Ross. I think Ross will make a decision at general manager and I think Grier could be the fall guy here. But it should be Tannenbaum.

I give this one a 50/50 chance.
