Miami Dolphins have 9 million reasons to sit DeVante Parker
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins wrap up their 2018 season on Sunday but some players should not be taking the field and that includes DeVante Parker.
Earlier this week Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said he would never sit starters again in any games like he did last year. He also said that he is trying to get 8-8 because it looks better than 7-9. At this point in the season I don’t think many fans really see much difference.
When the game does get here and the Dolphins line up against the Bills in Orchard Park, Ny, they may want to seriously consider leaving a couple of players off the active roster.
DeVante Parker is the first player that comes to mind. He has a 5th year option that is only guaranteed for injury and considering that Parker could get injured walking out of the tunnel it is probably a smart idea not to test fate. Miami is likely going to release Parker this off-season unless they can find a trade partner which really isn’t likely.
There is no reason for Parker to play this weekend. Taking in his injury history, he doesn’t produce much on the field so why risk it for a meaningless game that could cost the team $9 million in guaranteed money if he blows out his knee?
Aside from Gase said, I seriously would consider putting David Fales in at quarterback. What again was the purpose of having him as the third quarterback in 2018? These are the games that you use to evaluate and stop worrying about what your record might be. If Gase can start winning he can make up that game pretty quick next season.
Another player I would sit is Xavien Howard. There is no need for him to play. He has been dealing with a knee issue, already has been named to the Pro Bowl does he need to take a chance on his knee as well? If I’m Howard I might tell the trainers that it hurts a little bit and sit this one out.
This weekend is going to be the last weekend for more than a few players potentially including Ryan Tannehill. Andre Branch, Robert Quinn, Cameron Wake, Ja’Wuan James, Danny Amendola, and maybe even Kenyan Drake who could be a trade option for Miami this off-season.
Nothing of course is known about what the Dolphins plans are heading into the 2019 off-season but Gase was right when he said this will be the last time this team is together.
