Miami Dolphins: Players and front office out of time?
After an embarrassing 17-7 loss at home versus a very beatable Jacksonville Jaguars team everyone’s job is at stake. Starting from the top down.
The Dolphins slim chances of making the playoffs (6%) went to zero and the slim chances of many players and front office members returning died with it.
Starting with Executive Vice President Mike Tannenbaum we will most likely see many changes in the front office. Over the past many years Tannenbaum has not drafted very well. Many players including most recently players like Defensive End Charles Harris have been busts for the organization and have not panned out as good solid NFL players.
Too many years of bad picks and not getting decent backups for injured starters has got to change. If Miami wants to ever be a super bowl contending team they must build through the draft and they have not done a good job of doing that. They also need to have quality backups to start in a game that players get injured all the time.
A great example of a pick gone wrong is Devante Parker. Parker who was supposed to be a star receiver in the league has seen more bench time then playing time and will most likely be gone next season. Through many injuries that he could have played for, but didn’t Parker’s time is most likely up after the year ends.
Ryan Tannehill is also out of time. Having probably his best season in 2016 under Adam Gase with a 10-6 record we never got to see him in the post season because he was injured with a torn ACL and never got his chance.
Since that year Tannehill has been on and off the bench with injuries missing all of 2017 reinjuring his knee and missing part of 2018 with a shoulder injury. Tannehill looked like he might be on a comeback this year before the shoulder injury going 3-0 in the first three games and then losing two in a row to New England and Cincinnati (where he got injured and missed 5 games of the season).
Overall it has to be a total revamp of this team and of this front office. For too many years (most of the 2000’s) the Dolphins have been mediocre and dismal at best. If Miami wants to return to the promised land they must address the front office and on the field issues.
Owner Stephen Ross must address these issues and soon if he wants Miami to get back to winning football. If he continues on this path there will be no end to mediocrity and years of being average for this Miami Dolphins football team.
