Eric Bieniemy

For nine NFL seasons, Eric Bieniemy ran around the NFL as a 2nd round pick by the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Bengals and the Eagles before leaving the league as a player in 1999 and turning in his cleats for a whistle.

In 2001 Bieniemy took his first coaching job as a running backs coach for Colorado. He joined the Vikings in 2006 in the same role before going back to the college ranks in 2011 as the Colorado offensive coordinator. In 2013 he joined the Chiefs as a running backs coach in 2018 was named the teams offensive coordinator leading a Chiefs offense that blew away the rest of the league in production.

Bieniemy has no head coaching experience and minimal OC experience but he knows football and he can relate the daily grind that players endure through the season. He is a very likable coach with a high energy level and a keen eye for details.

Bieniemy’s biggest issue is his lack of experience. 2018 may not be his year for a head coaching job just yet but his time should come. He simply lacks the experience you would want for a head coach having only been coaching for 17 seasons at various levels.

His best season obviously has been 2018 but is that a result of his coaching awareness or the play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. How much of the offense does Bieniemy call on game day with Andy Reid? Those are questions that need to be answered as well.
