Reports suggests Miami Dolphins will make a call for John Harbaugh
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have a list of coaches that they are considering for their vacancy but none of them are named Harbaugh. That might change.
According to a report by ProFootballTalk.com the Miami Dolphins will try to get John Harbaugh from the Ravens and may have already inquired about him.
If there is any coach that could survive a Dolphins rebuild it would likely be John Harbaugh. Owner Stephen Ross has a great relationship with their family and John Harbaugh would be high on his wish list. In Miami Harbaugh would not have full control but PFT believes that would not be an issue if compensation worked out between the two clubs.
The Ravens have said that despite rumors of Harbaugh being fired, they will indeed keep him as their head coach in 2019 and are working on an extension. That however may only be lip service.
The Ravens know that Harbaugh will be a big draw on the open market if he were fired. They also know that Harbaugh could decline an extension and then be a free agent HC when his contract expires next year. Getting something for a head coach in a trade is rare but not unheard of.
The Raiders traded Jon Gruden to the Buccaneers and of course the Baltimore Colts traded Don Shula to Miami. Well Miami stole Shula from the Colts and the NFL made them give the Colts a first round pick so not really a trade.
If the Dolphins want Harbaugh and believe that they can get him, interest will ramp up after this weekend if the Ravens are eliminated from the post-season. They play at home against the Chargers on Sunday.
The Ravens could be eliminated this weekend and if the Ravens have interest in moving Harbaugh it will happen quickly because they will want to start their coaching search quickly as well.
Despite many fans desire to see no Harbaugh in Miami, he would be the best candidate for the job. He has the pedigree and stature within the NFL would bring in solid coordinators and coaches that will help in the rebuild.
While there is no definitive proof that the Dolphins have or will have interest in Harbaugh PFT believes that is a strong possibility. It is a situation to pay close attention to.
