The Miami Dolphins are going to start rebuilding their team and that puts Cameron Wake in a tough position for 2019.

Miami Dolphins star defensive end Cameron Wake is an impending free agent. He wants to continue playing if the right offer and situation comes along. He also would like to stay with the Dolphins and finish his career with the only NFL team he has played for.

The Dolphins are going to rebuild their roster. It may not be a complete blow it all up and burn it to the ground so the phoenix can rise again type rebuild but it is going to be a rebuild. Where does that leave Wake? Should he go through what would appear on paper as another potential losing and stressful season or should he retire?

Those are questions that only he can answer. The Miami Dolphins need to decide if they want him back at all. He is, again, an impending free agent. In 2018 Wake’s performance was hindered by injury and to some degree age. He was in a system that didn’t work on a defense run by amateurs who blamed others.

Wake doesn’t want to play for another team but that does not mean that he won’t play for another team and there are plenty of defensive end needy teams in the league. Would he want to chase a Super Bowl ring or chase a final big paycheck that Miami may not offer him?

When talk of the impending off-season moves that Miami is likely to make many do not account for Wake in those scenarios. Cut this guy and re-sign that guy or re-sign that guy and restructure that guy. That guy is typically not Wake.

Perhaps it is simply understood by fans that Wake will be back in 2019 for another year. He probably should be because the Dolphins need to move on from Robert Quinn and Andre Branch. That leaves no one but Charles Harris on the edge and well, Harris isn’t that good.

The 2018 season was hard on Wake and he was not a fan of Adam Gase according to many in the media. Now that Gase is gone is Wake more interested in returning even though the team is going to rebuild? That is Wake’s decision.

Of course Wake could simply call it a career and start the next chapter of his life and he very well may decide to do that but something tells me that he is going to give the Dolphins one and maybe even two more seasons. Rebuild or not.
