The Miami Dolphins do not have a head coach and that will not happen apparently until Patriots linebacker coach Brian Flores is free to move on.

While the Miami Dolphins wait, Flores and the Patriots continue their march towards the Super Bowl. New England travels to Kansas City tonight for the AFC Championship game. The Dolphins will know if they are waiting another two weeks or merely days to announce their next HC.

While Flores is rather raw in terms of top coaching experience, he has never been a defensive coordinator, he is taking a page out of former Dolphins first time coaches. According to rumors Flores is tapping inexperienced coaches to be his offensive and defensive coordinators.

These are just rumors and may even be nothing more than speculation by some but they make sense which obviously could be why they are speculating on the additions.

On the defensive side of the ball it has been reported that Flores may target Green Bay Packers linebacker coach Patrick Graham to run the defense. Graham spent one season with the Packers as the teams linebacker/run game coordinator. His highest position in his coaching career was linebacker coach and/or defensive line coach.

Graham spent most of his coaching career in New England. His first NFL job came in 2009 with the Patriots as an assistant defensive assistant. He would take over the linebackers for one year in 2011 then move to the defensive line for two seasons and back to linebackers where he stayed for 2014 and 2015 before leaving for the Giants. All told he spent seven seasons with the Patriots.

On the offensive side of the ball intelligent speculation by Simon Clancy may point to Chad O’Shea who is the Patriots WR coach as a potential OC hire.

O’Shea has been coaching with the Patriots since 2009 all of which has been as the teams wide-receivers coach. He began his career in 2003 with the Kansas City Chiefs as a volunteer assistant. He spent three seasons with the Chiefs in various roles before joining the Vikings as an offensive assistant.

With Adam Gase the Dolphins went with Vance Joseph who had success after being a secondary coach with the Bengals but then turned to linebackers coach Matt Burke who did not. Offensively most of the control and responsibility stayed with Gase.

If Jim Caldwell joins the Dolphins staff as an offensive assistant head coach he would bring the experience that the others lack. For now it really doesn’t matter because speculation means nothing until Flores is able to accept the Dolphins job. That will not be official until after the Patriots season is over.
