The Miami Dolphins have a lot of holes and a lot of needs heading into the 2019 off-season. Running-back isn’t one of them.

Despite the plethora of needs the Miami Dolphins have, Walterfootball who regularly posts updated and detailed mock drafts throughout the year believes that the Dolphins will be selecting a running back in 2019. In the 2nd round.

"The Dolphins could use help at running back. Frank Gore is ancient, and Kenyan Drake has durability issues."

The best part about this opening sentence regarding their mocked selection of Bryce Love out of Stanford is the fact that the very next line says this.

"While missing time with injuries, Love averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2018 for 739 yards with six touchdowns."

Is that not a durability issue? What kind of durability issues does Drake have and did they not watch Frank Gore run in 2018? Gore is an impending free agent and may or may not be back in Miami but the Dolphins looked good at running back in 2018.

Drake was not utilized nearly enough, a major problem with Adam Gase’s offense. Branden Bolden looked good when he was on the field and the Dolphins have Kalen Ballage who actually played more in the final weeks than Drake.

Miami simply has too many other needs to consider running back in any round in April’s draft.

In the first round of this mock the Dolphins took Ed Oliver at pick 13. The big defensive tackle has a good mix of speed and awareness but lacks elite strength. He might be a reach at 13 but if the Dolphins trade back, he could be a solid option.

This mock only goes through round three but they believe that Miami will go quarterback with their 3rd round selection. The pick? Auburn signal caller Jarrett Stidham.

Stidham still needs to grow as a quarterback and there are no areas of his game that do not need to be polished or worked on. It’s a bit of a reach and really seems more of a selection in this mock draft to click a check mark and say they took a quarterback.

Miami is expected to work on building the trenches on both sides of the ball in an effort to fix the team from the inside out. With Brian Flores the likely HC it is unlikely that the Dolphins would spend two of their first three picks on offensive ball handlers.
