The Miami Dolphins are not expected to shop much in the free agency period and spending will be light when they do but Chris Hogan could return.

When free agency opens the Miami Dolphins might need to replace a couple of wide-receivers. On the outside DeVante Parker is likely gone but the Dolphins will likely turn to the draft for his replacement. In the slot Danny Amendola may be released to save his $6 million contract. Enter Chris Hogan.

Chris Hogan is an impending free agent and if the Patriots don’t re-sign him he will hit the market where there will be some interest but nothing breaking doors or banks. This is where current Patriots WR coach and soon to be Dolphins offensive coordinator Chris O’Shea comes in.

O’Shea has coached Hogan every year since Hogan arrived in New England. He isn’t flashy, he isn’t super fast, but he knows how to run that Patriot style of offense and just like in Miami, 7-11 is always open.

The Dolphins could need to replace Amendola and Hogan makes sense in that he won’t be expensive and knows the system. Hogan isn’t going to light up any stat categories and in New England he played well enough but never matured to the level of Julian Edelman or Danny Amendola.

Hogan is capable of lining up outside and does so primarily on the Patriots offense but he can move around and that is what the Dolphins should be looking for. Another versatile player who can play multiple spots on the unit and be effective.

At this point anyone that is set to hit free agency is a long shot for the Dolphins simply because Miami isn’t expected to make many moves and the ones they do will be low end signings. Hogan won’t be low end but he won’t be high-end either. Somewhere in the middle would be a good guess.
