Miami Dolphins hoping Flores doesn’t pull a McDaniels
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are two days away from finally hiring a head coach but they need to avoid the situation that unfolded with the Colts in 2018.
When the Super Bowl is over the Miami Dolphins can officially hire Brian Flores as their next head coach but could Flores pull a Josh McDaniels and in the final hour pull out of the deal? Of course he can, he works for the Patriots.
When the final game of the season is over it would not be the list bit surprising to hear that Bill Belichick has convinced Flores to stay with the Patriots. In fact, it would surprise no one if all this time he already has and just wanted to keep Stephen Ross and the Dolphins in limbo. It is after all the Patriot way of doing things.
Unlike last year however there is no promise of a head coaching job after Belichick retires. That was the common water cooler discussion after McDaniels opted out of joining the Colts. He would take over the Patriots once Billy was done.
While Armando Salguero in a behind a wall article on the Miami Herald believes that Ross will pick Flores up and whisk him away to Miami as soon as humanly possible, it is highly unlikely that Flores would pull this type of stump. No matter how much Belichick might beg.
For starters, Flores comes across as a person of personal integrity and that seems to mean something to him. If he has shaken hands with Ross and quietly said “I will take it” then he will do just that. His relationship with Chris Grier is important and while a pull-out would be a bad look for the Dolphins it would be a worse one for Flores.
No the Dolphins need not worry they have the guy they want for the job and that guy seems to want that job so inevitably, it will happen soon. Possibly as soon as Monday morning.
