Now that the Miami Dolphins new head coach is in his office in Davie, he is starting to fill in his staff with two new additions. Chad O’Shea and Tiquan Underwood.

The addition of Chad O’Shea is probably my favorite signing of this off-season and that includes Brian Flores. O’Shea has never been an offensive coordinator but the visual evidence on the field of his contributions to the team are easily seen.

O’Shea worked under Josh McDaniels who ran the offense but O’Shea ran the wide-receiver group and frankly I can’t point to one other NFL team with such a lackluster group of receiving talent that has performed so well in the NFL.

Julian Edelman is from a Hall of Fame player but his play is at least getting his name thrown around. The truth is O’Shea has done an amazing job with the wide-outs. They run specific routes that are designed around how the defense covers them and how they scheme at the start of the play.

The fact that the Patriots continue to get so much production out of receivers who have been cast off from other teams is impressive and that credit should go to O’Shea. In Miami he will run his first offensive system but fans should expect better route running from the Dolphins receivers as they should receive better coaching. Instead of simply running a designed route they should start learning more about the defense in front of them and how to take advantage of certain coverages.

O’Shea unlike Flores and Patrick Graham have a lot more talent to work with at the skill positions so his job should be more fluid to change the offense to a different philosophy. Of course finding the quarterback will be the teams priority if not this year then next.

Tiquon Underwood is taking an offensive quality control role with the team. Only a short four years after his last days in the NFL, Underwood spent three years in the CFL before joining Lafayette as a WR coach in 2018. This will be his first job in the NFL as coaching assistant.

More hires should be coming soon as Flores continues to build his staff in the coming days.
