Jim Caldwell – Assistant Head Coach and quarterback coach

Caldwell has been coaching since 1977 when he took his first job as a graduate assistant at Iowa. A year later he left to coach receivers from 1978-1980 at Southern Illinois. From 1977 to 2000 Caldwell stayed in the college ranks and from 1993-2000 he was the head coach of Wake Forest.

It would be 2001 before he jumped into NFL coaching. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Caldwell would coach quarterbacks and then hold the same job with the assistant head coach title from 2002-2008 with the Colts. In 2009 he was named the head coach of the Colts and stayed until 2011.

Caldwell would later become the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2014-2017. He would be out of football of the 2018 season.

Jim Caldwell brings a tremendous amount of experience to the Miami Dolphins and will be a huge help to both Brian Flores and new offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea, more on him soon. In his career he has two Super Bowls under his belt. Super Bowl XLI and XLVII.  He was an assistant head coach with the Colts in XLI with Peyton Manning at QB and was the OC with Baltimore for XLVII.

Caldwell could be the biggest hire of this coaching staff as he will have a lot of input into the offense and help Chad O’Shea in his new duties while helping Brian Flores grow into his role as well.
