Full first round 2019 NFL Mock Draft, Dolphins get defensive
With the NFL Draft only a short two months away and a bunch of days, it’s time to start rolling out the 2019 NFL mock drafts.
Although it’s still really early in the process, it’s never too early for fans to drool over the young talent that coming out of the college ranks this year. In our first full round one mock draft of 2019, the NFL is again leaning defensively.
Let’s jump right in.
Pick #1 Arizona Cardinals
OLB Josh Allen, Kentucky
Most mock drafts are predicting DE Nick Bosa will be the first overall pick however he isn’t really a fit in Arizona. New defensive coordinator Vance Joseph prefers to play a 3-4 defense and Bosa is best suited for a 4-3 defensive end. Allen, on the other hand, was a ‘beast’ in Kentucky’s 3-4 defense this year; registering 21 Tackles For Loss (TFL) and 17 sacks in 2018.
Pick #2 San Francisco 49ers
DE Nick Bosa, Ohio State
Bosa is considered the most ‘polished’ pass rusher in this year’s draft. While teams will need to monitor his injury status, the Niners could team Bosa with DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas to give themselves one of the most formidable front fours in all of football.
Pick #3 New York Jets
DL Rashan Gary, Michigan
With this pick, the Jets pick up a versatile player. Gary (6’5″ 283 lbs) can play both end and tackle so new DC Greg Williams will have fun deploying Gary all over the d-line in 2019.
Pick #4 Oakland Raiders
DT Quinnen Williams, Alabama
Last season, HC Jon Gruden managed to gut the team’s already thin talent base and the Raiders have holes everywhere. Williams would be a good foundation piece as he’s just as disruptive in the passing game (8 sacks) as he is in the run game (19 TFL).
Pick #5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DE Montez Sweat, Mississippi State
Ideally, Tampa Bay would prefer to trade back and select a tackle lower in the first round, however, it’s too early to predict trades and none of this year’s tackles warrant a top 5 selection. Coming off a ‘monster year’ (14.5 TFL and 12 sacks), Sweat would help boost a Bucs defense that tied for 19th in sacks (39) in 2018.
