Each year internet sites rank the top 50 to 100 NFL free agents and this year, Miami Dolphins right tackle Ja’Wuan James is the only one to make the top 50.

Ja’Wuan James in many of the NFL rankings, including Walterfootball.com is ranked generally in the 17 to 25 area putting him squarely in the top half or quarter of the rankings. In 2018 James opted to not sign an offer given by the Dolphins and instead banked on himself. It appears that it will pay off.

James played last season under the 5th year option and unless the Dolphins tag or re-sign him this year he will hit the open market where he will draw a lot of interest. James’ best play would be to hit the market and see what the numbers look like then come back to Miami and say “what will you give me?”.

There is no guarantee that James is coveted by the Dolphins. Miami has not spoken a lot about him but of course they rarely discuss any players they are hoping to negotiate with. If there is a downside to James it is that he has an injury history.

In 2015 he missed seven games with a toe injury and in 2017 finished the back half of the season on IR. When he is healthy James is a very good outside blocker who continues to improve but it may not be enough to keep him.

With James coming in as a top 25 free agent, Cameron Wake makes his debut in the 60’s. Pushing towards the 38-year-old mark, Wake time in the NFL is coming to an end. He may have one or maybe even two seasons left in him but 2018 showed a slow down from previous seasons and it is not likely to improve in a new system.

Making the top 100 way down in the 90’s is William Hayes who is hoping to return from an ACL injury sustained when he sacked Derek Carr in week three and tried to avoid landing on him. He is not expected back with the Dolphins.
