The Miami Dolphins need a quarterback. Well, they need a lot of positions, but I’m going back to the root of the problem, which is quarterback. With the Kyler Murray announcement, another creative quarterback solution has surfaced for the Dolphins.

Kyler Murray recently proclaimed his intentions to pursue a football career, and from there, the speculation spread like wildfire. I saw it first from Matt Miller on Twitter about the theory of Kliff Kingsbury and the Cardinals making a secret verbal commitment to Murray that they’d take him first overall.

I saw this conspiracy theory and immediately thought about the Dolphins could trade for Josh Rosen. It’s pie-in-the-sky scenario but it’s enough for me to take the bait and give the Cardinals a call at some point before the draft.

Kliff Kingsbury shut down the rumors by saying “Josh is our guy”. Of course, Kingsbury is obligated to say something along those lines to save face, so who knows the real truth.

Regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes for the Cardinals organization, they’re in the midst of their own rebuild, so the Josh Rosen trade rumors aren’t going to die down over the course of the offseason.

The Dolphins, at the very least, should reach out and get a better understanding of what the Cardinals are thinking, maybe now, maybe on draft night. Josh Rosen was one of the most highly touted prospects in last year’s draft and ended up getting taken at 10 when the Cardinals traded up with the Redskins to nab him one spot ahead of the Dolphins.

It worked out for the Miami Dolphins, though, since Minkah Fitzpatrick dropped to them and he’ll end up being a great player for them for many years. But maybe there’s now a sliver of a chance to get Rosen, as well.

If there’s any legitimacy to Josh Rosen trade possibilities, then the Miami Dolphins should be one of the first teams in line. Although Rosen had a poor rookie season, the Cardinals are in a sad state of affairs in general, so some of Rosen’s struggles weren’t totally his fault.

There’s still plenty of potential and maybe a fresh start could even be in Rosen’s best interest given the rebuilding circumstances in Arizona.  If this situation is more fire than smoke in the next two months, then the Dolphins should pick up the phone. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could get Josh Rosen for pennies on the dollar.
