When the 2018 Miami Dolphins season was coming to a close, it was a hot rumor that Mike Tannenbaum would be fired. He wasn’t.

When the final seconds ticked off a disappointing 2018 season for the Miami Dolphins it was a forgone conclusion that Mike Tannenbaum would be fired. At the time he wasn’t. Owner Stephen Ross instead moved out of the football operations side of the business and reassigned him somewhere else. It now appears that “somewhere” else is in Arizona.

Since being reassigned no one really knew what Tannenbaum’s role was with the team but according to a report by Ian Rapoport, Tannenbaum is leaving Miami entirely and joining the Cardinals.

Tannenbaum appears to be joining the front office and it is likely on the football side of the teams operations. In what capacity it isn’t known but the Cardinals should be wary of having Tannenbaum handle player contracts.

In his time with the Dolphins he gave Reshad Jones a deal that Miami won’t be able to cleanly get out of for another two seasons. He extended Ryan Tannehill with a big contract extension and then sat back and watched his investment fail. He had similar success while with the Jets.

For some Dolphins fans who believed that Tannenbaum should be nowhere near the organization the news of him leaving will be met with cheer. While Tannenbaum may not have been a very good contract manager or for that matter talent evaluator, he is a nice guy who had good intentions.

The Dolphins needed to move on from Tannenbaum and it seems Tannenbaum needs to move on from Miami as well. It is the best for both he and the team.
