The Miami Dolphins have a starting quarterback right now but that quarterback isn’t expected to last until training camp. It leaves a wide open question as to who will start in 2019.

When the 2019 season kicks-off for the Miami Dolphins, the starting quarterback may or may not be different but one thing is for certain, right now, today, no one knows who that quarterback will be. The Dolphins could stick in-house or they could look to free agency or maybe the draft. They could do all three.

The NFL’s free agency period begins the week after next and while the Dolphins are not expected to be big players in the market they will need to address the quarterback position even if it is for depth purposes. They also need to address the elephant in the room, Ryan Tannehill.

Ryan Tannehill – Tannehill is the starter today but he may not be the starter two weeks from now. The Dolphins are believed to be ready to trade or release the seven-year veteran and is very unlikely he returns for an eighth season. Until he is actually off the roster though, you can’t discount him being here next season.

Jake Ruddock – Ruddock was signed this off-season and may end up the starter in 2019. That is a bit of a stretch but in this game the Dolphins are playing at QB, anything is possible. A former Michigan quarterback, Ruddock has spent his entire career with the Detroit Lions backing up Matt Stafford. He is a long shot to be the starter but if you are placing bets, he could be the only rostered QB two weeks from now. That would make the defacto starter.

David Fales – Will the Miami Dolphins re-sign Fales? He is an impending free agent and if the Dolphins’ Chris Grier believes that he can lead the team in 2019, then maybe. Of course they probably would have already re-signed him if that was the case. Adam Gase felt the need to keep four QB’s last year and Fales was one of them but he didn’t bother to turn to Fales when the offense sputtered.

Brock Osweiler – If the Dolphins want to tank, then maybe they should re-sign impending free agent Osweiler. Osweiler had one good game last year, one average game, and the rest were pretty bad. There is a likely chance that he finds getting signed by another team difficult.

Luke Falk – Falk has two years remaining on his rookie contract. The Dolphins picked him up off waivers last year but he was placed on season ending IR with a hand issue. The mid-round draft pick was considered a target by the Dolphins in the 2018 draft but ultimately passed on him. Could he be in line for a big role in 2019? Probably not. But he will get more evaluation.
