Ryan Tannehill is the quarterback that no one seems to want

The best quarterback in this year free agent market is not an impending free agent but Ryan Tannehill is likely to hit that market.

When the Miami Dolphins decide to release Ryan Tannehill he will become a free agent not subject to waiver rules. He will immediately become one of the top quarterbacks in this years free agent market but unlike the other QB’s in this years group, no one seems to want Tannehill.

When the Denver Broncos gave the Ravens a 4th round draft pick for the aging Joe Flacco some were a bit surprised. Flacco has become inconsistent and unreliable over the last two seasons but the Broncos believe he can lead a potential bridge to the next future of the franchise.

It has been reported that the Miami Dolphins are looking to trade Tannehill and there are no takers. Not yet. That also means that his trade value will be a lot less than a 4th round pick. That is if he is traded at all.

Where will Tannehill play in 2019 if not with the Dolphins? That’s a question that really can’t be answered yet because there is not a lot of speculation to a possible destination. Washington perhaps? The Bengals? The Jaguars? Maybe the Raiders?

With Josh Rosen a potential trade option for the Cardinals, Tannehill now slides further down the availability list because Rosen is young and still unproven. The Jaguars may go all in on Nick Foles and the Redskins are a team that may target Dwayne Haskins in the draft and start him from day one.

This is not a good year for Tannehill to come off a bad season. While his knee has healed sufficiently the shoulder issue became a problem in 2018 and now his “iron-man” persona is no longer discussed.

The biggest problem with Tannehill is that he has not matured since arriving in the NFL. He is exactly what you see on film. A quarterback who doesn’t use his field of vision well, has little to no pocket presence, and is not a vocal leader. All of it adds up against Tannehill. His contract is not ideal either because he is paid as an elite quarterback when he is actually quite average.

It will be interesting to see where he lands if and when he is released and then whether or not he will even start.
