The Miami Dolphins are continuing to reshape their roster and hopefully get younger. Reports are out that Ted Larsen will be released.

Miami Dolphins fans have not been kind to guard Ted Larsen over the last few years but in 2018 he was the catalyst to one of the greatest plays in Dolphins history. A play that earned the NFL’s Play of the Year award. The Miami Miracle.

Dolphins fans know about the pitch, the pitch, and the pitch to Kenyan Drake on the final play in Miami against the Patriots. They know how Drake made the moves to spring to the endzone and outrace the Rob Gronkowski bad angle. But it was Ted Larsen who made the biggest block of his Dolphins career.

Larsen ran down the field almost 40 yards to put a block on two Patriot defenders that allowed Drake to slip outside and around the Patriot coverage. If he hadn’t, maybe the script would have been a bit different.

Releasing Larsen will save the Dolphins just over $2 million in cap space. He had one year left on his contract. The release of Larsen is not really a surprise as the Dolphins are trying to get younger on both sides of the roster.

Josh Sitton is also expected to be released but nothing official has been made. Sitton himself said that he would likely be cut in a social media post last month. The Dolphins have several other players including Robert Quinn and DeVante Parker who could be released into free agency.

The free agency period begins on March 13th and several contracts have clauses that advance guaranteed money within days of the league new year start. Parker’s 5th year option becomes fully guaranteed on the 2nd day of free agency.
