Frank Gore has agreed to sign with the Buffalo Bills
Following his one-year stint in Miami, RB Frank Gore has agreed to a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.
Frank Gore made it clear that he was not ready for retirement, and determined to return for a 15th season. Unfortunately, it will not be with the Miami Dolphins. On Monday, Gore agreed on a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills worth $2 million.
While Gore wanted to return to Miami, where he grew up and attended the University of Miami, the Dolphins are opting to go young at the position. Gore will be 36 when the new season begins, but if last season is any indication, he still has what it takes to be an efficient runner in the NFL.
He will join LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory in Buffalo. According to ESPN reporter, Cameron Wolfe, Gore is close with McCoy and likes the Bills’ style of offense.
It may be unsettling for Dolphins fans to see Gore go to a division rival, but he clearly loves to play football and Miami wants to head in a different direction. As it stands, that leaves the Dolphins with Kenyan Drake and Kalen Ballage as the lead backs. Miami could look to the latter part of the draft to take a running back or wait to sign an undrafted player.
Losing Gore is disappointing, especially to a division rival at a minimum cost, but it makes sense for the Dolphins to want to give the younger guys a shot. Drake was terribly misused under Adam Gase, and the organization wants Ballage to gain more experience.
As expected, the Dolphins have been rather quiet since the legal tampering phase of free agency got underway on Monday. Miami had been heavily linked to defensive end Trey Flowers, but he’ll be heading to Detroit instead after the Lions offered him a hefty contract. Former Dolphin Danny Amendola is also heading to Detroit on a one-year deal.
In what could be considered even bigger news, it appears that Miami is likely going to lose RT Ja’Wuan James to the Broncos. If true, it will make offensive line an even bigger priority for the Dolphins than it already is.
There are reports that Miami is in the mix at possibly signing Tyrod Taylor as a bridge quarterback, but it’s been quiet outside of that.
