Should we panic that we’re limited at the QB position? Absolutely not.
Since the start of the new league year earlier this week, we have seen Quarterbacks come and go that have been connected to the Miami Dolphins. Does this call for panic? Absolutely not.
Such names involved include Tyrod Taylor, who just signed with the Los Angeles Chargers, and just recently Teddy Bridgewater, who re-signed with the New Orleans Saints after meeting one on one with the Phins.
What does this mean for the team? We’re basically left with the scraps at the position. When you look at one of the best options at the table, you look at the recently released Blake Bortles and A.J. McCarron.
There’s also a possibility that the we can roll with the guys we currently have, this includes names like Luke Falk and David Fales. Overall, it’s not a pretty sight. But does it need to be?
If anything, the people that believe in the “Tank for (insert name)” should be ecstatic, but for the people on the panic side, let me explain why having the remaining QBs available could be better for the long run.
Can we all remember that this team is in the early stages of a rebuild? Why get a quarterback that has the possibility of getting us 6-7 wins like we’ve been in the past decade?
Especially if you want to waste cap space, as it was reported by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald that “Bridgewater wanted Miami to give him a deal that would pay in the $16 million annual range and could balloon from there with incentives.”
Sure Bridgewater is some sort of a name with a Miami background, but paying him that much in free agency is idiotic. Which is why I’ve been impressed with the Dolphins new regime so far, they’re not overpaying for players as we did in the past.
But even we signed a guy like Taylor or Bridgewater, do you really think they can thrive with the team around them. This Dolphins team is far from being a complete roster as they have holes in almost every position, maybe except for safety and running back.
We need to focus on rebuilding the trenches and finding the quarterback of the future rather than trying to win. Here is my disclaimer, I don’t condone tanking, all I’m saying is that the Dolphins won’t have to with the 52 man roster they have now.
Whatever QB the Phins choose at this point, everybody should roll with it for now, because this is just the first step till we get our future quarterback of the future whether it be a Tua Tagovailoa, a Justin Herbert or a top QB from this years draft.
So here’s the overall message for Dolphins fans everywhere: Play it by ear and don’t push the panic button just yet. I know we’ve been told this before but….be patient.
