New Miami Dolphins guard Chris Reed adds depth to weak unit

The Miami Dolphins offensive line is not very good today and it may not be very good this season. It also doesn’t have a lot of depth. So Miami signed Chris Reed.
Chris Reed officially signed his contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday. The former Jacksonville Jaguar offensive lineman who mainly is a guard, adds depth to a roster that really needs more bodies on the offensive line.
There is speculation that Reed’s presence could be a sign that Jesse Davis is kicked out to right tackle to replace Ja’Wuan James on the outside. If that happens Miami will at least, on paper, have a right tackle, a right guard, center, and left tackle. In reality they an uproven but promising right tackle, a center who won’t likely be on the roster in 2020, a right guard that really is more or less a younger version of Ted Larsen, and a standout left tackle.
Reed is familiar to the Dolphins new offensive line coach. Pat Flaherty coached him while he was at Jacksonville. It should be an easy transition for Reed.
The Dolphins allowed Ja’Wuan James to leave for Denver in free agency where he signed the biggest contract for a right tackle coming in around $51 million over four seasons. The team also parted ways with guard Josh Sitton as expected for salary cap reasons.
Sitton was a big signing for the Dolphins and especially Adam Gase in 2018 but after one game Sitton tore his rotator cuff and spent the rest of the year on IR. Gase’s history with adding players that he covets was not a very good one in Miami.
The Dolphins are likely and almost have to, address the offensive line in next months draft. Many believe that Miami could select as many as two or three offensive lineman in the first five rounds and the first round is not out of the question either.
