The Miami Dolphins gave Robert Quinn permission to talk with other teams and he has already spoken with the Cowboys and the Saints.

In a new rumor, there is talk that the Dallas Cowboys “badly” want Miami Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn but can a trade actually happen or will the Cowboys try to call the Dolphins bluff and wait for a release?

According to Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys view Quinn as the missing piece on their roster.

"the Cowboys want Quinn, badly, according to sources. They view him as the key off-season acquisition that puts them over the top in their win-now mode of moves since the end of the 2018 season. – Via Hill."

The hang-up might be with the contract of Quinn. There was some speculation that Quinn could be wanting a re-worked contract that could pay him more than he is scheduled to make now. That would  put him in the $13 million per range.

The Dolphins have been rumored to be willing to pay some of Quinn’s contract this year to facilitate a trade but that has not been confirmed. One thing though is that Steven Jones, son of owner Jerry Jones, is not done with free agency.

S. Jones told Sirius XM NFL Radio that they have positioned themselves to some things done and that they are working on their next pick-up. He didn’t go into detail but this could be Robert Quinn.

The Dolphins reportedly want a 2020 4th round pick in return but it will be interesting if that rises at all given the interest by the Saints and potentially the Panthers. For now however it appears that the interest from the Cowboys is legit and this could fuel the trade that has been percolating for about a week.

NFL team executives are in Arizona for the owners meetings so it is possible something gets done by the weekend.
