ProFootball Focus mock draft has Miami Dolphins on the edge
By Brian Miller
In one of many new 2019 NFL mock drafts that have made their way online, one of the newer ones has the Miami Dolphins going to the edge in round one.
The latet ProFootballFocus.com NFL mock draft for 2019 has been released and the Miami Dolphins selected edge rushing defender, Brian Burns of Florida State.
There is a definite need at defensive end without question and many believe that Burns is going to be one of those rare finds in the NFL. Skinny and tall, 6’5″to be almost exact, Burns has a big burst off the line and quick moves that allow him to “bend” at the point of contact. He holds his balance very well and has the motor to get to the passer or chase down a backside runner.
Burns has plenty of starting experience at Florida State. He started 25 of 38 games in his college career. The biggest knock on Burns is that he isn’t very strong and will need to bulk up without losing his speed and technique.
Some in the media have Burns rated high while others have him lower against other edge rushers in this class. He had a very good NFL Combine which helped his stock rise.
While the selection for the Dolphins makes sense, is it the right one given who was still on the board when the Dolphins were on the clock?
The most glaring player was Ed Oliver who was taken one pick later. The Dolphins may have a need for a defensive end but they also have a big need for a hole plugging defensive tackle and many believe that Oliver is a top ten selection this year.
This mock did not include trades and it is possible that the Dolphins could opt to trade down from their spot at 13 and amass more selections. Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence are two players that could be had later in round one as well as the number of offensive lineman that would also fill a big need for the Dolphins.
