The NFL has had its share of great divisions but Shannon Sharpe believes the AFC East, is “crap” and guess what? He is right.

For almost two decades the AFC East has been run by the New England Patriots and the rest of the division has not only sat back and watched but hasn’t challenged them at all. Shannon Sharpe the host of “Undisputed” calls it a “crap” division.

“…and they play in that crap division that is the AFC East” – Shannon Sharpe via NESN

Sharpe was talking about why he believes 2019 will Tom Brady’s last in the NFL.

The AFC East was once proud.  A long time ago. There was a time that the Miami Dolphins ruled that roost. A time when the division title came down to the Bills and Miami with the Jets constantly throwing a wrench into everything. The doormat of the division was the Patriots.

That was before the days of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and a slew of cheating allegations and fines.

Now the division is ruled by New England. A team that basically plays everywhere perfectly except in Miami. The problem is no one can beat them in Foxboro.

The road to the playoffs has been easy for the Patriots and frankly they could fall on their NFL faces and still stroll easily to the post-season as a division winner. That is not to say that teams haven’t tried. Miami won the division in 2008 but that was the year of the Wild Cat offense and a Tom Bradyless Patriots squad.

In 2016 the Dolphins tried again and came close but couldn’t get past the Wildcard round of the playoffs. The Jets have not helped and the Bills have not helped either. The sad part is Miami has pretty much finished 2nd most of those seasons but still way short of chasing the Patriots.

Sharpe was right when he called the division “crap”. It is the Patriots to lose and their unprecedented string of successful seasons is as much on the shoulders of the other three teams in the league as it is because of Belichick and Brady.
