The Miami Dolphins added a wide-receiver earlier today and now they are dipping their feet into the South American football world with Durval Neto.

The last time the Miami Dolphins went to Brazil it was to hold tryouts for their international cheerleading squad. This time around they are going a lot bigger with Durval Neto.

Durval Neto is a 300 plus defensive tackle that stands 6′ 3″. A former Judo champion, Durval will join the Dolphins as part of the NFL’ s International Player Pathway Program that was established in 2017.

Neto will join the Dolphins for training camp and Miami could go one of two ways. They could add him to their 53 man roster or they could add him to the practice squad. In doing the latter, the Dolphins would be granted an 11th practice squad spot. In that event, Neto would not be eligible to play during the season.

Neto is one of seven players that will participate in the International Player Pathway Program for 2019. An Australian rugby player joined the Bills earlier today as a running back.

In total five countries are represented from the seven. Germany has three players, Australia and Brazil both have one along with Mexico and England.

Neto has played American style football for four seasons on two of the top Brazilian teams and has been a standout defensive tackle. For the Dolphins he will add depth to a defensive tackle unit that needs to be upgraded. Vincent Taylor and Davon Godchaux are Miami’s top two DT’s but the depth behind them is thin.

Miami is likely to address the position in this months draft so Neto, despite his size, is a long shot to make the roster but he could show enough for the Dolphins to ask for the 11th practice squad slot.
