Montez Sweat EDGE Mississippi State

With Drew Lock on the board at 13, it may be smartest to trade down with a QB needy team and gain picks for next year’s draft, but with that not an option it’s tough to pass on Sweat. Lock will be tempting without question but it’s difficult to find the type of production that matches Sweat’s outside the top 10. A heart condition my scare teams away but in true talent Sweat is undoubtedly in the top 10. He combines speed and power at the point of attack and has everything you want in an elite pass rusher. His combine numbers are unheard of for a defensive end and he should be able to do everything Brian Flores and the rest of the coaching staff asks of him. The Dolphins’ need for an edge rusher is unequivocal and Sweat shouldn’t have much trouble finding playing time in what is currently an empty room of pass rushers.

James Anderson

Weighing some options: QB Drew Lock is there who the Broncos were said to be keen on and is a need. LB Devin Bush is there who isn’t a great need but is a fine player. The players it would come down to me are DE/OLB Montez Sweat and Rashan Gary DT/DE who both fill needs on defense and both are versatile enough to move around in what should be a hybrid defense. Although Sweat has health concerns with his heart his need at DE appears to be the thinnest and moving down thinking he would be there too great a risk.

Also left is RT Jawaan Taylor. There probably is no better replacement for Ja’Wuan James under the conditions of a rebuild that is also focused on left-handed QB Tua Tagovailoa in next years draft. I have no trust in anyone on the roster or otherwise that could make this offense line any good other than LT. The owner wants Tua and that is what the team will work towards. While not sexy this is my pick and it was very close with the other two aforementioned players.
