The Miami Dolphins are investing a 2nd round draft pick in a new quarterback after trading a 2nd round pick for Josh Rosen.

The trade between the Miami Dolphins and the Cardinals has been talked about all day. When the Dolphins were on the clock at 48 they traded down to 62 with the Saints but the trade for Rosen was still in play and at 62 with more value for the Dolphins, Miami made the move.

It could go down as a great trade or another in a long line of disastrous 2nd round picks spent on a would be franchise quarterback. On Thursday the Dolphins passed on Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock who would drop all the way into round two.

The Dolphins have learned nothing from their own history and therefore may be repeating it yet again. Instead of drafting Drew Brees in 2001 they drafted Jamar Fletcher. While that move cost them, it wasn’t until Nick Saban opted to trade a 2nd round draft pick for Daunte Culpepper instead of signing then free agent Brees.

Before that the Dolphins spent a 2nd round draft in a trade with the Eagles for A.J. Feely. That didn’t work out really well either.

Of course the Dolphins have not done much better with drafting 2nd round quarterbacks either. They spent 2nd round picks on Pat White, John Beck, and Chad Henne. All three are considered busts for the Dolphins.

Now it is Josh Rosen’s turn. A valuable 2nd round pick is being shipped to Arizona for a quarterback that not only the Cardinals don’t want but no one else in the NFL wants either. Consider that the Cardinals want to move him but on Thursday the Giants and the Redskins both opted to draft quarterbacks. They were the only other teams discussing a potential trade for the QB.

With the trade down by Grier and the addition of another 2020 2nd round pick, the trade makes far more sense than it did at 48. The Dolphins also gave a 2020 5th round pick in the deal as well.
