Did the Miami Dolphins improve on the offensive line during the draft?
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins drafted two offensive lineman during last weekends draft but was it enough to finally fix the problems they have?
The simplest answer is no. Unfortunately the Miami Dolphins did not do enough to improve their offensive line but that may not have been the immediate goal from this years draft.
The addition of Michael Dieter and Isaiah Prince are both solid additions with Dieter likely to be a day one starter. He will need to improve for the next level but he has the tools and the athleticism to be a solid guard.
For now he will be penciled in to play the left side but he has experience at both guard positions and at center. A physical player with a lot of upside, Dieter just needs to take the next step and he should under good coaching.
Isaiah Prince on the other hand has a lot of work to do to get to an NFL level at right tackle. He has serious problems in his game from balance and leverage issues but he has the talent to be good once he gets coached up and learns the NFL level.
For the Dolphins, aside from a couple of undrafted free agent signings, the offensive line is going to be pieced together in 2019. Jesse Davis will anchor the right side and while he has a lot of potential, he needs to be more consistent. The Dolphins believe he can handle the right side and if he can, the problem on the right side could be solved.
The Dolphins are rebuilding and the draft didn’t exactly lay out the way it could have for the team. The addition of Josh Rosen took up a draft selection spot that could have been used on an offensive lineman but passing on the value that Rosen could give the team was hard to do.
With Daniel Kilgore back at center after spending last year on IR. Laremy Tunsil of course will anchor the left side. The Dolphins still have depth concerns and they will be relying on some players with little proven experience to handle the job this year.
Overall the Dolphins made potentially one improvement with Dieter but it clearly isn’t enough for the 2019 season. They will have to address it again in free agency next year or in the draft.
