Praise for Josh Rosen trade continues for the Miami Dolphins
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins may not come out of the Josh Rosen trade looking, well, rosy, but early takes on the trade are positive for the Dolphins.
Earlier this week Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen spoke with the media for the first time and as he impressed those in attendance, took responsibility for the attitude he displayed previously, and thanked the fans in Arizona, a more humbled guy emerged.
Now the accolades for the trade are starting to come in from the mainstream media as well. On SiriusXM NFL many of the hosts have called the trade “great value” and a “potential steal” for the Dolphins. Others have speculated that this could turn into a nightmare for the Cardinals should Kyler Murray not blossom and Rosen does in Miami.
"The reality is, for all intents and purposes, Rosen was the fifth quarterback selected in the 2019 draft, at pick No. 62, by the Dolphins, after fleecing Arizona. – Jason La Canfora – CBSNFL"
Even in South Florida where one beat writer “warned” his readers that Rosen was not going to be the savior of the franchise has, in little more than a week, changed his tune almost entirely. It’s not surprising. Rosen has the big NFL arm and pocket awareness that coaches love but he also has a lot of work to do in the coming months and year.
Rosen may not be the Dolphins next franchise quarterback. He may never be any better than Ryan Tannehill, a tease that buys another year. In the coming years and perhaps decade, there will be comparisons between a lot of players.
Christian Wilkins success will be compared to the quarterback Miami passed on, Dwayne Haskins. Josh Rosen will be compared to Ryan Tannehill in Miami and Kyler Murray in Arizona. If the Dolphins don’t draft a quarterback next year, he will be compared to them as well.
For now the Dolphins can at least take a little joy from the positive press on a move that many didn’t like a week ago Friday but are warming to it now.
