Reshad Jones ‘excited’ to get to work as Dolphins open camp
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have opened their last off-season practice. A mandatory three day session and Reshad Jones is in attendance.
For the last month fans and media have taken some issues with Reshad Jones’ decision to stay away from the team during voluntary workouts. Now that the mandatory session has arrived, Jones is ready to go. According to coach Brian Flores.
The question is whether or not this is simple lip service or genuine excitement. Over the course of the last week, it has been reported by Herald beat writer Armando Salguero that the Dolphins would hope to trade Jones prior to the start of the season. It is unlikely they find a trade partner and barring a huge season by Jones, he will likely be released following the season for cap considerations.
Having Jones back in the fold is important. He will be asked to learn a new system, new dialogue, new responsibilities that are not defined simply by situational play. Jones is behind the curve for now but the veteran should be able to get up to speed quickly ahead of training camp.
Flores indicated that no player will be given their starting job and all of them must be earned. That applies to Jones too. With the start of training camp not until the end of July, Jones has a lot of book work to do after missing the voluntary workouts.
Flores said that Jones is in great condition and that was expected. He has been working out on his own this entire off-season after coming off a shoulder injury last year. If he remains on the roster, he could indeed have a big impact on the defense.
