The Miami Dolphins held the Jacksonville Jaguars to just seven points in their week three preseason contest and the defense looked good.

For the Miami Dolphins, having something go right is a step in the right direction and on Thursday night, they got a really solid performance from their starting defense.

Once again the defense was led by Jerome Baker who was disruptive.

Miami’s defense gave up one score, an eight-play touchdown drive led by Nick Foles and the starting Jaguar’s defense. The Jaguars started the drive at the Miami 47. Prior to that Miami had forced two punts. When the Jaguars pulled Foles for their back-up quarterback, they didn’t have much of a chance against the Dolphins defense.

Foles’ last drive would end on an Eric Rowe interception.

Miami held Foles to six completions on ten attempts for 48 yards and one touchdown. Gardner Minshew fared slightly better in almost three-quarters of play with 17 of 27 for 141 yards.

Rowe led the defense with five tackles and an interception while Baker finished with seven total tackles.

Up front, Christian Wilkins continued his solid defensive line play and Davon Godchaux looked good as well before handing over the game to the depth players.

For the Dolphins it was a good chance to get the starters playing time ahead of the season opener. They will have one more preseason game but it is unclear how much the starters will play in week four.

Sam Eguavoen continued his impressive training camp making two tackles, one for a loss. Eguavoen, who really needs a nickname, seems to be a solid fit with Baker in the linebacker group. Nate Orchard who is hoping to make the final 53 added two sacks to his game finishing with three total tackles.

Against the run, the Dolphins did well. They held Leonard Fournette to 27 yards on seven carries and the rest of the Jaguars runners combined for 40 yards total with 18 of those coming on a run by back-up quarterback Minshew.

Charles Harris who had a very good outing a week ago did not record a tackle on Thursday night.

Miami still has a long way to go but the defense, especially the secondary played far better than we saw in the first two weeks of the preseason. The secondary is consistently showing they could be the best unit on either side of the ball.
