The Miami Dolphins continue to move players around and this time they have found a destination for linebacker Kiko Alonso. Today they traded him to the Saints.

After spending most of the day on Saturday trying to trade linebacker Kiko Alonso, the Miami Dolphins have found a trade partner in the Saints. The compensation seems to be a player for player move. The Dolphins will receive linebacker Vince Biegel in the deal according to Ian Rapoport.

It was reported late last week by local media that Alonso approached the coaches and general manager, Chris Grier, and asking to be traded. Alonso wasn’t in the Dolphins full-time defensive plans as he lost ground to Jerome Baker and Sam Eguavoen. The move is good for both sides regardless of whether Biegel works out.

Biegel has primarily been a special teams player. A former fourth-round draft pick of the Packers in 2017, Biegel joined the Saints in 2018 as a free agent.

Biegel is 6’3″ and is quick and athletic. The Saints wanted to get him more involved in pass defense this year. For the Dolphins, he will give the team some extra bodies for special teams but his versatility could allow Brian Flores and Patrick Graham to use him in situational play on defense.

Alonso leaves the Dolphins will fans and detractors. He played well for the Dolphins but at times was often late with his hits thus drawing penalties. He endured himself quickly to South Florida, a Cuban-American who was embraced by the Latin influence of South Florida.

Statistically, Alonso was one of the best tacklers on the football team. He regularly led the team in tackles and posted over 100 last season. While he struggled at times, he had great ranged East to West along the line.
