Miami Dolphins get blown out thanks to their offensive ineptitude
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins took the field today and were expected to get blown out by the New England Patriots but today they got blown out because of their offense.
What was supposed to be a huge loss by the Dolphins turned into exactly that late in the 2nd half when the Dolphins offense decided they were not contributing to the team’s success in losing.
The Dolphins defense showed up to play today, that isn’t a joke. Miami actually held the Patriots to 13 points in the first half and for most of that half, the Patriots could only put seven points on the board. Heading into the 2nd half Miami’s defense continued to play strong.
Unfortunately, the defense wore down in the South Florida heat as the offense could not mount any extended drives. Too many three and out series, lack of first downs (two through three quarters), and a time of possession midway through the 3rd quarter of 11:00 minutes.
The offense finally decided that enough was enough. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a pick-six and followed that with a swing pass to Kalen Ballage who couldn’t handle the pass and tipped it to a Patriots defender for another pick-six.
Miami went from being in a 13 to nothing game to a 43 to nothing deficit in the span of one and a half quarters thanks to the putrid Dolphins offense.
It is the second game in a row that the Dolphins have been beaten by more than a 40 point deficit. In two games this season the Dolphins have scored a whopping 10 points while allowing 102 points.
This season has become an embarrassment but in reality, this game could have easily shifted towards the Dolphins if the offense could have done anything. Ryan Fitzpatrick was terrible even when the blocking was good. Wide-open receivers were missed or not seen. The running game was non-existent.
Defensively the Dolphins played well for the most part but Eric Rowe was absolutely atrocious. He was flagged twice and was beaten for a touchdown as well. The one time he was in position, he stopped a would-be score by having the ball hit him in the back because he never bothered to turn around.
Miami had the chance to get the goose egg off the board in the final seconds of the game but with four seconds left in the game, Miami opted to go for a meaningless touchdown from the five-yard line rather than kick a field goal that would have at least erased the shutout.
