Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores made the biggest decision of his short NFL HC career and it didn’t pay off. He stands beside it.

When the game came down to a simple decision for Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, he didn’t flinch. He didn’t debate it, he didn’t give it a second thought. He knew what he was going to do. In fact, he knew what he was going to do before they needed to make a decision.

Down 17-3 entering the fourth quarter, Brian Flores watched Ryan Fitzpatrick lead a 13 point comeback but he needed 14 points. Some questioned whether or not his decision to punt on 4th down late in the game was a mistake and others applauded his decision to pull Josh Rosen but when the Dolphins scored the touchdown that could have extended the game, Flores already had his mind made up.

Flores spoke with the media after the game and of course his decision to go for two was the first question asked.

Flores, stoic, somewhat dejected, knowing what was coming simply said, “I knew we were going for two”. Flores made the decision earlier on the drive should the Dolphins score. He didn’t change his mind. He told the media that the play that was run was well defended regardless of whether Kenyan Drake had made the catch. Something that Ryan Fitzpatrick later told the media as well.

Flores said he wanted the win for the team. He thought they had the momentum and he, they, thought they had the right play called. It didn’t work.

With the missed two-point conversion the Dolphins drop to 0-5 on the season and are firmly entrenched at the bottom of the league where they hold ties with the Bengals and Jets, two teams the Dolphins will play this year.

Right or wrong, Flores knew he wanted it. It just didn’t work and as he said after the game, he had no regrets.
