The Miami Dolphins are heading into half-time with a lead. Yes, you read that right. With 14 points and a stellar defensive effort, Miami is winning.

Starting the game today in Buffalo, the Miami Dolphins were a long shot to win but apparently the Bills have opted to overlook the Dolphins and have put up three field goals on the day to Miami’s two touchdowns.

It didn’t look good for the Dolphins early. On the second play from scrimmage, rookie Christian Wilkins was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct resulting in his ejection. The replay showed a half-hearted punch. Already thin on defense, the loss of Wilkins was not going to be good.

Buffalo drove the field but had to settle for a field goal. Today however, has become a lot of firsts for the Dolphins.

Miami’s half-time lead is their first dating back to week 13 of 2018 against the Bills. When Kalen Ballage dove into the endzone for the teams first touchdown of the day, it marked the first rushing touchdown for the Dolphins this season.

Miami, who has led only 3:47 seconds the entire season ran their first play on offense with a lead.

So far the Dolphins defense has looked really good. They have two sacks on Josh Allen and have held the Bills running game in check. They are playing really solid coverage down field as well despite being down Xavien Howard and Reshad Jones.

Picked up off waivers earlier this week, Ryan Lewis started on the outside today and has looked decent keeping the plays in front of him and making tackles. Overall no one predicted that this game could go this way and while it is far from over, the Dolphins are showing that they are not just going to be the leagues door mat in 2019.

So far Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked sharp most of the time but he isn’t being asked to do a lot. The Dolphins are playing sound football but I would not say they are playing aggressively on offense. They are not making mistakes and executing and that goes a long way to finding success.
