2002 & 2003

The Dolphins didn’t have either pick due to the trade with the New Orleans Saints for RB Ricky Williams. Williams had a great career with the Dolphins and, as it turns out, there wasn’t much to draft in the way of quarterbacks in either season. 2002 had David Carr (1st overall) and Joey Harrington (3rd overall) but the Dolphins would have possessed pick 25.  With that, they could have only had Patrick Ramsey at 32nd overall. Also, if we are being honest, none of those three quarterbacks had careers that you sit back and wonder what could have been if they were on your team.

In 2003, Carson Palmer (1st overall) and Byron Leftwich (7th overall) were selected. Both quarterbacks did find success at points in their careers but the Dolphins would have possessed pick 18. With that, Kyle Boller (19th overall) and Rex Grossman (22nd overall) could have been fish. No thanks.

2004

This was one of the best years for selecting a quarterback. Eli Manning (1st overall), Phillip Rivers (4th overall), and Ben Roethlisberger (11th overall) are all potential future hall-of-famers. The problem is Miami picked at 19 and could have grabbed J.P. Losman at 22nd overall. But, if there was ever a time to trade up, it was definitely 2004.
