When the Miami Dolphins announced that Brian Flores would be their next head coach, there was a collective groan from the fan base. Not so much now.

Brian Flores became another first-time head coach and the fact that he would be leading the Miami Dolphins didn’t sit well with many. Then the Dolphins gave him a five-year deal fully guaranteed and fans laughed.

When the Dolphins began gutting their roster, fans shook their heads and some felt sorry for Flores who was now coaching not only his first-team as the head coach but was doing it with both hands tied behind his back and with a blindfold.

It was so bad that Flores was stripped of last year’s first-round draft pick, Minkah Fitzpatrick. He was stripped away from former first-round pick Laremy Tunsil and watched as several veterans all left via trades.

The season began as everyone expected. A massive blowout loss and those blowouts continued from week to week. Yet for all the lopsided losses and the over 100 point differential, the Dolphins played better after week one. They competed hard in the first-half for several weeks then they began to get leads, on Sunday they got their first win in week eight.

Through all of this, it is Brian Flores who has made this extremely young football team believe that they can go out and win. These players are not intimidated by the Patriots, whom they held to just 13 points in the first-half weeks ago. They are not afraid of anyone.

This team is inexperienced but it is a big testament to Brian Flores and his coaching staff that are putting this team in position to win games, compete, and most importantly keeping the locker room from imploding under the premise of “tanking” and getting blown-out.

On offense, OC Chad O’Shea is getting more production out of tight-end Mike Gesicki than Adam Gase ever could. He looks like an NFL tight-end now. He looks like he may just be a very solid pick by the Dolphins.

The offensive line that has been maligned much of the year is playing better than they have at any time this year. On Sunday they played a defensive front that is solid and they won the battle on the day.

Miami is getting production from street free agents that few have heard from on defense. The corner situation is so bad that guys picked off of waivers the last two weeks are starting, and they are not playing poorly.

It may not be known what the Dolphins will do with all their draft picks but it does appear that these coaches are not going to have a problem coaching them.
