Miami Dolphins could face Eli Manning in his final NFL game
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins will not face rookie Daniel Jones this weekend in New York against the Giants but instead veteran Eli Manning.
On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins will play their second game in a row against a New York team but this may turn out to be the final game of Eli Manning’s NFL career.
There have been a lot of rumors and speculation that Eli Manning may call it a career after this season. Benched earlier for rookie Daniel Jones and last year for a back-up quarterback, Manning has spent much of this season on the bench.
Last week, Manning took the starting role again as Jones was injured and will remain so this week as well. Many believe that Jones will return to the lineup for week 15 and Manning will once again be relegated to the bench.
The Giants play two games out of three at home to wrap this season so it is possible that New York may give him a home game finale send-off. If not, and Jones does indeed return to the field next week, this could be his starting swan song.
Miami Dolphins typically don’t care about the Giants or their roster but Manning has been an honorary member of the team since his heroics in the Super Bowl that ended the Patriots bid for a perfect season. Manning has beaten Tom Brady‘s cheater’s twice in the big game.
For the Dolphins who are trying to win or maybe trying to win a top-five draft pick, Manning would pose a different type of opposition. While he is older and his game has decreased he will be facing a Miami Dolphins secondary that is banged up or on IR and the replacements coming in off the street with little or no experience.
Some believe this game is going to be an easy win for the Dolphins and one local beat writer who has recently suffered the wrath of Joe Rose on live radio believes that Miami should absolutely win this game. Still, it is not going to be easy, especially on the road. Add in the potential emotion of Manning’s last start and it might be too much. Of course, everyone has been writing this team off from the start of the season.
