Looking at the first round of the NFL Draft post free agency start

5: Miami Dolphins: If the Dolphins want Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert, it is looking more likely that one or both will fall to them at five. The Panthers, Bears, and Colts all have new quarterbacks and that means they are not going to move up for one. That leaves only the Chargers one pick later and frankly, they might view the cost of moving up too expensive as well and be content taking the one Miami doesn’t draft.
There is another possibility. The Dolphins could pass on a quarterback completely. If Isaiah Simmons or a top offensive lineman is available, the Dolphins could look at the next group of teams that are set to draft.
The Chargers certainly want a quarterback but if the Dolphins view both Herbert and Tagovailoa equally, then pass and let the Chargers draft one. The Panthers have a QB now, as do the Cardinals, Jaguars, Browns, Jets, 49’ers, Buccaneers, Broncos, Falcons, and Cowboys. Only the Raiders could potentially want a quarterback at 12 even though they signed Marcus Mariota who will not start over Derek Carr.
This takes the Dolphins to the 18th spot of the draft. The Patriots draft 23rd and are the only remaining first-round team who really needs a quarterback that could trade up. They would likely need to get to at least 12 at the most or at minimum 17.
