The Chase Young Option

No other player in this year’s draft is rated as high as Chase Young. The Ohio State edge rusher would, in any other year, be the top draft pick but with quarterbacks being so needed this year, he is likely going to be drafted by the Redskins at number two overall.

There was some early speculation that the Bengals, who need edge-rushing help, could skip QB with the first overall pick and address the position at the top of round two. There have been plenty of teams in NFL draft history who have made similar moves.

Young would greatly improve the Bengals defense. They could then roll with Andy Dalton for another season while a QB like Jalen Hurts, Jacob Eason, or maybe even Jordan Love gets drafted at the top of two. While Love’s stock has skyrocketed the last month or two, there is always surprises during the draft.

Drafting Young at the top would shake-up the entire top-five draft picks. The Redskins, who have been rumored to have QB interest would be in play for Burrow but also would immediately become the team that others would be calling to trade with. That trade would also be costly because it would become the most wanted pick in the draft for the Chargers and Dolphins.

Suddenly the top five picks would shake-up differently and if the Dolphins opted to stay put at five, they could almost guarantee themselves, Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert if that is who they desire.

Finally, while I am not ruling out the possibility of a trade and do think there is a good chance that it does happen, my bet would be on Joe Burrow being drafted by the Bengals next week.
