With two draft picks in round one, it is possible that the Dolphins trade one of those and gain more picks in 2021 and maybe a pick in 2022 as well.

We have to decide where the Dolphins are likely to select in 2021. Some have them drafting as low as two overall but I can’t begin to imagine the Dolphins finishing with less than six wins and that is even a bit of a push considering the talent that has been added this off-season.

I am more inclined to think the Dolphins will finish with a 10-15 range draft pick so I will go off of that line of thinking.

Pick number one: Patrick Surtain, II – Cornerback

Surtain is considered one of the best corners in next year’s draft and a good 2020 season will only help to establish that. For the Dolphins, investing in cornerbacks has become a big priority for this regime. The additions of Byron Jones and the extension last year of Xavien Howard would make you think they don’t need another but Howard could be moved by the time the draft rolls around and taking Surtain, II would be his replacement.

Having a player whose father was once one of the best CB’s in Dolphins’ history isn’t a bad thing either.

Pick number two: Micah Parsons – OLB – Penn State

I know a few people who will be very pleased if Parsons dropped a bit next year and the Dolphins would be wise to jump on him if he does. Right now, Parsons has been mocked anywhere from a top 10 pick to a top 20 pick. Either way, this first-round talent could be just what the Dolphins need.

Miami doesn’t have a huge need a linebacker but Parsons would allow the Dolphins to move some pieces around defensively and at some point, Miami is going to have to shuffle some of the depth at linebacker.

Parsons would do well to learn from Kyle Van Noy in 2020 as well and that could enable the Dolphins to let him play situational football in 2020 while he learns the Flores defensive system.

Wide-receiver is also a possibility with this pick as the Dolphins could look to upgrade the position,  of course that really will depend on what DeVante Parker and Preston Williams do this year.
