The Miami Dolphins need Ereck Flowers to grow as an offensive guard sooner rather than later.

The New York Giants believed that Ereck Flowers was the answer to their tackle issues so in round one of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Giants selected Flowers with the 9th overall pick. It wasn’t a good selection.

Flowers spent three years with the Giants and while he started all but two games with them, he struggled considerably. In 2018, Flowers was out of New York and landed with the Jaguars after five games. He didn’t last long in Jacksonville either. After signing a one year deal in Jacksonville, Flowers couldn’t cut it at left tackle and the Jaguars did not bring him back in 2019.

Flowers signed with the Redskins ahead of the 2019 season where he started all 16 games and performed better than he had in his four years prior. The Redskins had signed him to a one-year deal and when the 2020 off-season start of free agency began, the Dolphins paid a pretty penny to bring him to Miami.

The deal stands at a three-year $30 million contract with $19 million guaranteed. While Flowers performed well at guard last year it is possible that we see him regress in 2020 as the Dolphins offensive line is in flux as they makeover the unit. Flowers needs to stay focused and become a leader on the line alongside center Ted Karras and whoever ends up at left tackle.
