The 2017 Miami Dolphins managed six wins but they were far worse than their record.

The Dolphins have finished a season with only six wins, five times in their history but I would venture to believe that the 2017 team would have been run over by the other four teams. Nick Saban, Tony Sparano, Joe Philbin, and even Don Shula all had six-win seasons but in 2017, Adam Gase fielded one of the worst teams in franchise history.

Gase’s team point differential was a whopping -112. They scored 281 points and gave up 393. None of the other six-win teams came close with -79 by Philbin and Dan Campbell being the closest.

Gase was so bad that he bucked everyone’s opinion and brought in Jay Cutler to replace an injured Ryan Tannehill. Cutler should never have been on the field and frankly, it is shocking that the Dolphins managed six victories. More shocking was the fact that at one point the team was 4-2 and on a three-game winning streak.

Adam Gase must have decided that he wanted to talk the rest of the way because Miami would lose all but two games the rest of the season and it was ugly. The team had talent though. Jay Ajayi was running well but Adam Gase didn’t like the attitude he had so he traded him to the Eagles before the trade deadline. He butted heads with Jarvis Landry and couldn’t figure out how to use DeVante Parker or Kenny Stills.

Defensively, the Dolphins were a mess but again, had talent. Reshad Jones, Xavien Howard, Ndamukong Suh, and Cameron Wake should have made the defense better but Gase had no interest in working with the defense and didn’t even watch them when they were on the field. Instead opting to let Matt Burke do whatever he wanted while Gase himself sat on the sidelines.
