The Miami Dolphins need to see if Mike Gesicki is the real deal and this weekend starts that observation.

It’s hard to believe that Mike Gesicki has been around since 2018 but it is true. In some ways it seems like he just got here but this season is a critical one for the former 2nd round tight end. He needs to take a big step forward.

A lot was made when the initial depth chart came out and Durham Smythe was listed ahead of Gesicki but there is no need to read a lot into that. Gesicki is the primary pass-catching tight end and he showed a lot of growth last season, now he needs to become what Miami expected him to be when they drafted him three seasons ago.

Gesicki has great hands but needs to be more consistent with his routes. He has gotten better. A lot of this season rides on the play-calling of Chan Gailey and Sunday should give us an idea of how Gailey intends to use Gesicki this season. He is by far the best talented TE that he has had in coaching career at the NFL level.
