Miami Dolphins defense vs the New England Patriots offense
Coaching Offensive Coordinator vs Defensive Coordinator – Josh McDaniels on the Patriots has been able to show an ability to create gameplans that maximize the strengths of the players he has at his disposal. He also has experience with a mobile quarterback when he was with the Broncos and had Tim Tebow. This should help in developing a gameplan with and for Cam Newton.
With the Dolphins, current defensive coordinator Josh Boyer followed coach Flores when he came to Miami and started as the cornerbacks’ coach/passing coordinator in 2019 and was promoted this offseason to the role of defensive coordinator. The familiarity with the vision of what coach Flores wants to accomplish is there as well as the familiarity for Boyer with the players on the defensive side of the ball. Both are important as the team is poised to be much improved from the 2019 season.
Edge – Another tough call. I’ll give the edge to the Dolphins and coach Boyer. Although McDaniels is more experienced, I think the additions and the overall mentality of the Dolphins wanting the team to succeed and do whatever is needed to accomplish that will provide the edge in this matchup.
Stay tuned for my look at the Patriots defense against the Dolphins offense. As stated, we have football back, and like many of you, I am excited to see what this season brings.
