Tight-end usage

Mike Gesicki should be a top TE in this league and maybe someday he will be but there is always a chance that it won’t happen unless he leaves the Dolphins. While I don’t care to rehash all of the offensive coordinators over the last decade and a half, the Dolphins coaching staff have yet to figure out to use a freaking tight-end. Like the Brandon Marshall picture above, frustration makes you want to scream!

Instead, we get glimpses. Last year was Gesicki’s best year as a pro and to reward him, the Dolphins fired Chad O’Shea who actually used his pass-catcher. Granted, some of this over the years had been due to the personnel on the field at the position, but that too falls on the coaches and general managers who have failed to acquire that talent. Poor decisions in the draft have led to bad TEs and that has translated to offensive systems that haven’t worked.  Last week, TE was almost invisible so welcome back Chan Gailey!

Despite a lot of success in the NFL with tight ends over the past 20 years, the Dolphins have resisted making that an important role on the roster.
